Covid has impacted some of our usual arrangements for sport across the school. This page continues to highlight our intentions for PE and sports.
We aim to provide a variety of opportunities for children to develop their skills in PE as part of our curriculum. This includes through the use of specialist external providers alongside the provision from our teachers.
Throughout the year, we offer opportunities to take part in external festivals and competitive sporting activities, such as football tournaments and swimming galas.
In years 3-6, children have the opportunity to have swimming lessons at Bridport Leisure Centre for ten weeks each year. Particularly due to our coastal location, we feel strongly that swimming and confidence in the water are key life skills.
In years 1 and 2, children have the opportunity to have gymnastics lessons at Bridport Leisure Centre. This not only provides high quality provision but also prepares children for their swimming lessons at the same venue as they move through the school.
In addition to PE lessons, classes also have a daily active time. This is in addition to playtimes. We introduced this after the first covid lockdown and quickly saw that children were better able to focus in their learning and were able to develop individual fitness levels.
Sports Premium Grant
The PE and Sports Premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils. How we plan to use this grant and our review of the impact is outlined in the documents below:
