The role of the Trust Data Protection Officer (DPO):

  • Provide advice and support around all data protection matters, for example data breaches, subject access requests (SARs), freedom of information requests (FOIs) and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs)
  • Monitor compliance with data protection legislation including GDPR, including providing advice and support for addressing issues that arise from audits
  • Help to raise awareness of data protection matters with staff
  • Be the school’s / Trust’s liaison with the ICO in the event of a notifiable breach, or with a data subject who makes a complaint about how their data is handled

The role of the School Data Leads:

  • Log data protection incidents such as data breaches on the GDPRiS platform and help ensure the advice from the DPO is implemented
  • Log SARs and FOIs on the GDPRiS platform and help ensure these are responded to within deadlines and in line with the advice from the DPO
  • Ensure staff attend data protection training as required by the Trust and DPO
  • Communicate with the DPO and Trust data lead to ensure information is shared and policies & systems are implemented
  • Contribute to audits
