Pupil Premium
Pupil premium is a grant given to schools in England since 2011. The grant is designed to close the attainment gap, evidenced across the country, between children from low-income households and their peers.
The pupil premium is allocated to schools for each pupil who is eligible for free school meals (FSM) and for pupils whose parents are serving in the armed forces. For the 2018/19 financial year, primary schools receive £1,320 for each pupil eligible for FSM (secondary schools receive £935) and £300 for children of parents serving in the armed forces. The school also receives an additional pupil premium grant for children who are looked after or adopted.
The school uses current research, particularly that collated by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), to plan the spend of the money allocated. Our strategy can be seen here:

Your child qualifies for free school meals as long as you receive any of these benefits:
- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit; this is as long as you’re not entitled to Working Tax Credit and your annual gross income is no more than £16,190
- Working Tax Credit ‘run-on’ payment (paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
- Universal Credit: this is as long as your household income is less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
